Butcher's Paper
Hi All, Would anyone know please where I would get my hands on a heap of butcher's paper? (Besides the butchers, I'm sure they get sick of being asked). Enough to cover, say, an entire wall of a room. Ta :) |

Hey everyone merry xmas. I am wondering if anyone knows of any events or things to do (at a low cost) that are on over this long weekend. We are keen photographers also. Looking for interesting place to visit that we may not know about or need reminding about. Have done the museum and art galley resently. Have a great holiday. |

Day 27 Last day in LA. Packed all my things. Woke up early to go get coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. Bagels are only good when they are toasted. Also the trick to coffee in this place is to order espresso coffee otherwise you end up with perculator coffee. Can't wait to get home and see my dad. Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Day 26 Woke up this morning to a text from mum telling me dad was in the ICU. Spent the morning freaking out and wondering if I should catch a plane a day early or not. Mum was adamant that dad was ok. He was conscious and not intubated but I rang work anyway to let them know that I might have to take time off to see him. I'm tempted to make my parents come to my house while Nikki is away. Anyway so this morning my cousin Markus took me to the wetlands and to a pier at Marina Del Ray and we walked his dog Bosco. I took heaps of photos. I'm contemplating doing a photography course. Anyway then we spent the next couple of hours waiting for everyone else to get ready and ended up leaving them behind anyway and meeting them t the Getty Centre. I thought the Grtty Centre was just an art museum because i knew it had a Rembrandt exhibition and a Monet exhibition and stuff but words cannot express how I feel about that place. The Getty Centre is my favourite place in LA. I will post photos on Facebook and leave it at that. It is absolutely amazing but I would spend the next 4 pages talking about it. If you only see one thing at LA and it's a bright sunny day, go to the Getty Centre. Currently on the road to see the Griffith Observatory. Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Day 25 Today my cousins Marlena and Mia joined us. Marlena brought a friend Jessica and Mia brought her son Elijah who is really really intelligent for a 9 year old. We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific which was awesome. They had a gross octopus which moved around alot with it's tenticles. They actually move very fluidly and gracefully but I still think they're scary. This aquarium had an awesome jellyfish display. There were so many displays of all different types of jellyfish and all different shapes. It also had an area where you could touch the rays and starfish and coral. There was one ray that just hogged the touching and kept going to Mia. It was pretty funny to watch. After the aquarium we strolled along the dock and came across an 'Outback Steakhouse' which was so not Aussie it was shameful. They put ranch sauce on everything and claim that their dish 'The Bloomin Onion' was a 'true blue' Aussie dish even though I had never heard of anything like it. My cousin Mia ordered this Bloomin onion just to see what it was. When it came out it looked pretty spectacular. They cut the whole onion in such a way that it splays out like a lotus flower. Then they batter it and deep fry it and that's your you beaut Aussie onion. WTF mate. So our last stop was the Queen Mary which is an enormous ship that looks like te Titanic. It was a warship in WW2 and then got turned into a cruise ship and then got retired and they permanently dry-docked it and turned it into a hotel with raps of restaurants and bars inside. This ship was really big. I took photos but they don't do it justice. It was a damn big ship. Also the Queen Mary is apparently haunted and during halloween they do ghost tours on the ship. To finish the night, my cousin-in-law joined us for dinner at Bubba Gump which is a restaurant chain based on Forrest Gump the movie. It had some pretty cool concepts. The sauce and salt and pepper were all in a shrimping bucket. The cocktail list was on a binder attached to a ping pong racket and there were Forrest Gump sayings all over the table. The directions to the toilet were number plates with 'I gotta p' on them! To top it off, there was a flip card on the table that had a green Run Forrest Run sign on it. If you needed anything from your waiter you could flip it to a sign that said Stop Forrest Stop! It was a pretty great night! Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Day 24 Today was Disneyland day! My cousin Markus took me and we met up with a friend Luke. We parked at the theme park parking and they had courtesy buses to and from the theme park Which was excellent. After we got into disneyland we rented lockers to put all our warm clothes in. It was a hot day but I was told it would get colder so I brought heaps of warm stuff. Thank the gods I did! First stop was adventureland where we went on a jungle ride. We wanted to do the Indiana jones ride too but it was closed temporarily for some reason. Adventureland transformed into New Orleans where the Pirates of the Carribean ride was, and the famous haunted house ride. At Disneyland they have these areas where you can get fast passes for the ride. This is where you swipe your entry ticket and you are given a fast pass were you can skip the line but they give a certain time frame where you can use it. For example we got our fast passes at 3pm for the haunted house ride and we could go back and skip the line between 6-7pm. Otherwise you could wait for an hour or so right then and there. At the start of the pirates ride you could see a restaurant that was actually in the ride. We tried to make a reservation but it was all booked out. After New Orleans we went to Frontierland and I went on a ride called Thunder Mountain which was one of my favourite rollercoasters, but like all rollercoasters wasn't long enough. Frontierland turned into Fantasyland where we rode the Matterhorn and the little kiddie Snow White ride. We also rode the A Small World ride which was amazing because it was all Christmas themed. At night I took about a million photos of everything all lit up! We went on the Honey I Shrunk the audience ride and the Star Tours ride which was based on Star Wars and was amazing. I have been on simulators before but none as realistic as that one. It's up there as one of my favourites. Also in Futureland we also went on the buzz lightyear ride. I forgot what it's really called. But it was awesome. You got lazers and you were able to manoever the pod you were in and shoot the targets with your lazer guns. I beat both the boys with a high score of 60000 points! The haunted house ride was based on A Nightmare Before Christmas so it was really good! I bought merchandise! Our last stop was space mountain but the first time we went there was a 75 min wait and them the next 3 times we went back is was closed because something broke. Or something. The last thing we sar for the night was the Fantasmic show which is basically a variation of Disneys Fantasia. It utelised everything from fireworks and flames leaping off the water to projections onto a fine spray of water. Disneyland is a must for any tourist. Even if you've been there before! Day 23 continued So in my last entry I talked about last night but didn't actually say anything about today. It was busy! We started the day by going to the Musum of Natural History with my cousin Markus and his friends Joanne and Dominic. It was alot bigger than I anticipated. Their gem section was amazing especially since I love shinys so much! They had a precious gem vault with a very rare red diamond in it. When I actually saw it, it was about the size of my little fingernail. They had heaps of dinosaur bones and stuffed animals on display. Instead of having glass boxes with the animals In them, they actually had displays of the animal in it's habitat. Pretty cool! My favourite part was probably the critter display in the kids section (typical huh...I'm such a kid). I saw all sorts of strange ants and beetles. I also saw my first black widow. She was spectacular. She looks just like a red back except all black. The red spot is underneath her abdomen near her spinnerets. But she has the same delicate long legs and smooth pear-shaped abdomen as out redback. Just gorgeous! I also saw a few tarantulas. One was a pink tipped tarantula with a black body and pink feet. Pretty awesome! I also saw the biggest tarantula I have ever seen. All of the tarantulas I have seen are big but this one was huge. It was almost the size of my hand in diameter. It's legs were half the thickness of my little finger and it's abdomen was large and fat and round. It was so fat and hairy. So amazing. Anyway after the museum we went to a rose garden where I went crazy taking pics of the roses and trying to get a grip on the macro function on my camera. Then we did the California science center where we looked at some pretty interesting stuff. My favourite part was the human body display although I did get really sad looking at the human gestation display because they had real Foetuses for every example from conception to birth. Our last stop was the Staples Centre where they have the Lakers games and heaps of concerts there. Also a tall Christmas tree and an iceskating rink. My cousin took me to a restaurant/bar called the Yard Glass. It is by far the most impressive bar I have ever seen. Sporting 160 beers including a massive 125 on tap, I went a little crazy ordering beer samplers and taking photos of the keg room and bar area. So incredible. But I can tell you it was hella busy and i would hate to clean the beer lines in a place like that!! It was the most amazing night! I ate the most decadant mac and cheese ever- bacon, 4 cheese including gorganzola AND truffle oil. Also the ranch sauce here tastes amazing here! It was a fantastic day! Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Day 23 First official day in LA. Last night after I arrived we had an amazing dinner and then 3 out of the 4 cousins I haven't met came over. We all went to Hollywood boulevard and I took heaps of photos of the stars along the street. I saw the scariest Michael Jackson impersonator ever. I was too scared to take a photo. He looked like the black Michael and had actually gotten plastic surgery to look like Michael. Yep. Scary. Then we saw the tallest Jesus impersonator I have ever seen. He was singing Christmas carols. We went to that Chinese theatre too, where the stars sign their names in the concrete. I only saw half of them before I was ushered in to the Hollywood Wax Museum and the Guinness records museum. There are so many gross records, from eating the most oysters to swallowing the most swords. By this stage my docs were giving me blisters (I'm still breaking them in) and I was nearly falling asleep so we went home. Hollywood is definately better at night because everything is lit up! Day 22 Had the last breakfast at the gorgeous b&b where we stayed. As per usual, our host Leanne prepared far too much but it was perfect. Highly recommend that place for sure! Had brunch with the gang before parting ways at the airport. Annie went home, Nikki is staying a little longer before heading to NYC and I have just touched down in LAX. Just waiting for my ride. Tomorrow starts the final leg of my journey through the US. I'm a bit sad about it but I must admit I am looking forward to sleeping in. Better get a wriggle on! Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Day 21 So last day in Seattle was today. We woke up early and headed down to the pike st markets. Yay! I purchased some shinys, ate a red pear and bought a giant pomegranite! After the markets we went to the aquarium which was the beat aquarium I have been to yet. It had a sea bird enclosure, otters, a disgusting giant octopus and a heap of tropical fish. So much fun. Ooh and I touched an anemone in the touching pool. Slimy. We caught a bus to the Seattle centre to go to the Science Fiction Museum which was awesome and the music museum which was not so awesome. Unfortunately we ran out of timeto do the pacific science centre which was probably a good thing because I was stuffed. Lastly we had dinner at an awesome pizza place and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called! But amazing pizza! Little bit sad to end the Seattle leg of the journey. Fly to LA tomorrow. Hey guys, My Mum got rear-ended near the BP on the corner of Oxley Road and Cook Street, next to the BP at around 6.30ish tonight
I'm sketchy on the details, but she was driving our red Mazda 3, and she didn't get the other persons numberplate.
I realise this is a long (long long long long long) shot, but did anybody happen to see anything?
I'll try and update this with more details later, but I've already called the BP and apparently their cameras don't look on the side of the road where the accident happened (and it's not CSI, so they can't magically alter the video footage to look to the right and zoom in).
It wouldn't be so bad, but we only just got the car back from the shop three days ago for a similar thing :(Nevermind, he didn't have insurance anyway! |

Llama
My daughter is in love with llamas. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a plush llama? We do have a little fuzzy alpaca made from alpaca fur that she loves that came from Montville but somewhere closer would be super handy. Any suggestions would be appreciated! And now I go to sing the llama song |

Share the love
I know this isn't Brisbane-related, and could be considered advertising, however you guys have been so helpful to me over the years, I thought I would share this with you. Victoria's Secret have started their stocktake sale today, up to 70% off a huge variety of clothing, bras, and all kinds of stuff. The quality of their clothing is relative to the price, however they are usually damn better than the stuff you'd find in Australian shops. Their tshirts are pure cotton, fit very well indeed and are comfortable, with HUGE range of models and colours. (the "essential tee" is very similar in thickness and comfort to $30-40 Esprit tshirts, but cost about a third). Jeans and pants go from 30 to 36 inches inseam, a dream for someone 6ft tall like I am, and fairly good fit (depends on model etc), and in any case, $40 for pants this long is awesome price. The bras are ideal, go up to DD cup, and on sale start from US$12, in Australia I'd pay at least $50 for this level of quality, fit and prettiness. I've started buying clothing from them about a year ago, and honestly, there is no going back. Anyway, here's the best thing - if you use code FA919873, you will get FREE international shipping on orders over $200, yay. Which means a saving of at least $46. It's valid until 12th January, and honestly, you won't regret it. This sort of voucher code comes up only once every blue moon, make use of it. :) Current Mood: cheerful |

Cobblers.
Hi folks, My leather lace up boots (Roc brand...type you'd see on school students and hospitality peeps) I use for work are grinding down their heels. I think I've ground down about 2 layers or 8mm off either side of each shoe. I'm leaning outwards and tripping a lot. Any recs for cobblers that do resoling around the SouthSide area? Good price and quality of work a bonus. These are $100 pair of shoes that are only 5 months old but since they get worn 6 days/wk for 42 hours each time...better to resole the things than buy another pair. That's what end of financial year will be for haha. It's only the heels that need fixing anyway. Comfy. Mister Minit in Garden City any good? Apparently they do 10% off if you have RACQ Membership...they cut my keys real nice but not sure on the cobbler thing. Thanks all ~ |

Where do you get your news??
Hello, I am a Journalism student at the University of Queensland, and wanted to ask you guys some questions to help with a little background on my topic from real people. If you want to answer it would be really helpful, but please could you include your age, as this assignment is about different generations. And, if you don't mind your answer possibly being quoted in a University assignment (nowhere else) then please include your full name. It would be a great help guys!!! Firstly, where do you guys get your news from? Do you read newspapers, watch the news on TV, or get your news online, or any combination of these forms? Is there a different level of trust in news that you read in the paper, watch on TV or read/view online? And one more thing. Does anyone here actually create news content, for either online or offline media platforms? Does anyone write a news blog, for example, or has anyone contributed to one? Thank you so much in advance for any insight into your news consumption or creation habits! If for some reason you would like to say something in private, feel free to note me or email me at nina.basson@uqconnect.edu.au |

Polenta Scoffins Originally published at KatteKrab. Please leave any comments there.
Scone Muffins = Scoffins
I had an idea of trying to make scones with polenta (course corn meal) using a cream scone recipe. The dough ended up being a bit too gloopy, probably because the polenta is not as absorbent as flour, and so I spooned the mixture into a muffin tray to bake them, instead of rolling and cutting as you normally would with scones. I was quite surprised how well they turned out, although I do believe they needed another 5-10 mins baking - so I've added that extra time below. You may need to vary this a little depending on your oven.
1 cup polenta 1 cup self raising flour 1 teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 200 mls pure cream (avoid thickened cream, as it usually contains gelatine or vegetable thickeners) up to 1 cup of milk
Pre-heat oven to 200c
Grease a 6 cup muffin tin, and line with a little extra corn meal
Sift the flour, then mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Pour in the cream and stir through quickly, then pour in a little of the milk at a time until you reach a gooey doughy consistency. But don't stir it too much, you're aiming to just combine all the ingredients, not create a smooth dough. Spoon the mixture into the muffin moulds, and bake for 20-25 mins, until a test skewer comes out clean, and the tops are burnished golden.
Eat them with chutney and creamy cheeses, or sliced meats. Chutney and brie works surprisingly well as a replacement for the jam and cream you might usually have with a scone.

looking for a specific personal trainer
Last year I was idly looking about at personal trainers and I found one in Brisbane whose specialty was training for dancers (besides just regular bog-standard training). I can't seem to find her now and Google isn't helping. Any ideas of who she could be? Any other suggestions? My boyfriend and I are thinking of doing personal training together in the new year - he wants to improve overall fitness esp strength and flexibility (he's a geek who cycles occasionally) and since I do physical performance I want to maintain my fitness but have no real consistency! |
